love L. 3d Has quickly become my favorite movie. I loved the message it portrayed to young women, that true love comes from within. See more Alisa A Dec 22 This is my favorite movie. It's not the best movie ever made. It's silly and sometimes a little cringe-worthy. The script is not surprising. There is no action, no explosion, no unexpected plot twist. You won't learn anything. It's a little movie that is relatively unknown. But, my favorite just the same. The acting is good - some real star power here: Catherine O'Hara, Peter Dinklage, James McAvoy, Christina Ricci and Reese Witherspoon. They do a great job. The sets are whimsical, especially the lighting; the street fair looks like a magic carnival, the poker hall looks like a seedy smoke filled world where people go to lose time, Penelope's room looks like a time capsule to a lonely childhood. The wardrobe is fabulous. I have always wanted Penelope's coat. The clothing is dreamy, something you might find in the real world, but somehow outside the normal conception of daily wear. The theme of true love is simple, predictable, and cozy. There is nothing groundbreaking here. As an only child though, the message lands with me every single time I watch the movie. It makes me feel better about being so often alone as a child. It makes me feel like my experience is not so unrelatable. I watch this movie any time I'm sick or not feeling well in some way. By the end of it, I'm always smiling. If you're looking for something cute, uncomplicated, sweet, and silly - this is the one. Get yourself a nice cup of tea and your favorite snack, a fuzzy blanket, and step into this little post card world where happiness is a choice we can easily make. It might remind you that, even in the real world, we get to choose joy. See more Sarah B 12/04/2024 What's wrong with the critics? I loved this movie and have seen it several times. I liked James McAvoy and him and Christina Ricci have good chemistry, and I liked Peter Dinklage in it, he was probably my favorite character. It's been awhile so I forget the characters' names except for Penelope. And it had a good message and is a modern-day fairy tale. Spoiler: I liked how Peter's character at the end is about to take a picture and he decides not to, which was a secondary message in the movie to accepting yourself but is really relevant to our time; just let people have privacy and also not every part of your life has to be on camera.
