Several existing and emerging information metrics based on entropy, processing effort, quantum physics, emergent capacity, and human concept learning are reviewed and reviewed to discuss how these fail to answer the above questions and provide guidelines for future research.

On the Augmentation of Cognitive Accuracy and Cognitive Precision in Human/Cog Ensembles

Both cognitive accuracy and cognitive precision are shown to be increased by information of different types (policies and rules, examples, and suggestions) and with different kinds of problems (inventive problem solving and puzzles).

Synthetic Expertise

The nature of expertise, the Expertise Level to describe the skills required of an expert, and knowledge stores required by an expert are reviewed and six Levels of Cognitive Augmentation are introduced to describes the balance of cognitive processing in the human/cog ensemble.

Calculating Cognitive Augmentation - A Case Study

Cognitive accuracy and cognitive precision are proposed as standard metrics to describe and measure human cognitive augmentation in the coming era of cognitive systems.

The Effect of Information Type on Human Cognitive Augmentation

The degree of cognitive augmentation depends on the nature of the information the cog contributes to the ensemble, showing conceptual information is the most effective type of information resulting in increases in cognitive accuracy, cognitive precision, and cognitive power.

Does Using ChatGPT Result in Human Cognitive Augmentation?

Using ChatGPT does not always result in cognitive augmentation and does not yet replace human judgement, discernment, and evaluation in certain types of tasks, in fact, ChatGPT was observed to result in misleading users resulting in negative cognitive augmentation.

Cognitive Augmentation Metrics Using Representational Information Theory

A metric called the augmentation factor is proposed to indicate the level to which a human is augmented by working with one or more cognitive systems, and several other metrics such as cognitive gain, work, power, density, and efficiency are proposed to analyze a cognitively augmented human.

Augmented Cognition. Enhancing Cognition and Behavior in Complex Human Environments

The relationship between capacity coefficient analysis of workload efficiency andDual task interference response time measures is explored and the use of capacity coefficients for visual multitasking, compared to dual task interference analysis, is illustrated.

Complexity over Uncertainty in Generalized Representational Information Theory (GRIT): A Structure-Sensitive General Theory of Information

It is argued that agent concept acquisition, and not the communication of states of uncertainty, lie at the heart of generalized information, and that the best way of characterizing information is via the relative gain or loss in concept complexity that is experienced when a set of known entities changes.

Information and Meaning

By looking at how neurons create a brain which understands information inputs and then operates on the information received, Tom Stonier is able to propose a theory of how the brain works and to explore how this theory may be used in the development of information science.

Beyond Information

The Origin and Early Evolution of Intelligence and the Preconditions for Intelligence, the Future of Intelligence, and the Super-Intelligence Imperative.

Building Watson: An Overview of the DeepQA Project

The results strongly suggest that DeepQA is an effective and extensible architecture that may be used as a foundation for combining, deploying, evaluating and advancing a wide range of algorithmic techniques to rapidly advance the field of QA.

Information Theory

Entropy is a measure of the uncertainty in a communication system and it is said that a measure of the uncertainty in a system is also a measure of its information content.

Mastering the game of Go with deep neural networks and tree search

Using this search algorithm, the program AlphaGo achieved a 99.8% winning rate against other Go programs, and defeated the human European Go champion by 5 games to 0.5, the first time that a computer program has defeated a human professional player in the full-sized game of Go.
